The ceremony began, every one was ready for it. Everyone new what they had to do. They started with selecting families to the newborn. Then all the ceremonies of two, three, four, fives, sixes, sevens and finally the Eights. The nines got their bicycles and the tens got their hair cut, the elevens had to change their clothing. After a long time watingit was finally time for the ceremony of the twelve, what everyone was wating for. the order was really important, so the students took theiur place. The chief strated at number one, Jonas was located in number 19. He waited impatiently until the chief got to his number, but the ceremony had an unexped turn. The Chief continued to number 20 and skiped 19, which was Jonas. The hole community gasped....
" Jonas" she said, speaking not to him alone but to the entire community of which he was a part, " you will be trained to be our next Receiver of Memory. We thank you for your childhood." (64)
Its amazing how important this job is for Jonas` communitie and how many years they had been wating for this job to be assigned to the correct person. I do think Jonas is the adequate person for the job, and the Elders never make a wrong decition so....
" They both walked to the center of the room. Jonas put his tunic back on. " Goodbye sir," he said."Thank you for my first day." (76)
I find interesting how Jonas is thankful for the work "The Giver" and himself had done durnog that amount of time, but it was worth it, right? Jonas is a long way from finishing his training, but he knows what he needs to do.
Jonas feel very worried when the Chief director skiped him, he thought he had done something wrong. he thought that after the Ceremony everyone was going to be disappointed about him, specially his parents...
As a Reciver of Memories, Jonas had the possibility to lie with out any consequence... Is that good of bad? Will Jonas lie for good, or for bad?
Jonas recived new memories, some where of joy, but other where no... he looked forward to more memories, but know he dose not what to expect now.
In the past chapters (1-5) the autor gives Jonas as the main character. We can see that this is a different setting than what we normally see in other stories. Its more like a story that happens in the future. During this past chapters Jonas is close to be a twelveand be a part of the Ceremony of Twelves were he will be assigned to a future job in order to hel society. As Jonas is going though this expirence he knows this is a very important step on this life. Jonas decides to consult his parent for advice because he had never experience this ceremony and was anxious and nervious.
" I`m feeling apprehensive, he conferssed, glad that the appropriate descriptive word had finally come to him.
"Why is that, son?"His father looked concerned.
"I know there`s really nothing to worry about, and that every adult has been through it. I know you have Father, and you too, Mother. But it`s the Ceremony that I`m apprehensive about. It`s almost December."(9)
In my opinion Jonas did good in telling his parents how he feels because thjey had gone though it like he said, that leads to great types of adiveces. This way he knows that this ceremony is going to turn out good, and he took a lot of time thinking on the right word to decribe his feeling. How is the Ceremony going to turn up? Is Jonas going to have a good job that completes him the way he it?
" It was almost December, and Jonas was beginning to be frightened. No. Wrong word, Jonas thought"(12)
I can feel how anxious Jonas is about the ceremony, and trynig to find the correct words to describe how he is feeling in that moment and trying to be as presice as posible.
WOW! This past chapters were very shocking! I got to discover how Jonas`world is, to know thing dont really work the same has in there, they have a very different system.
OMG! Jonas tells the reader that he likes, Fiona, which is one of his close friends. I wonder if this friendship can get to more then that? You know, nobody writes their future.
Jonas has different feelings going on, but... he does not really know which on is the correct one. But he is going to figure it out, I hope so...
